On December 16, 2021, the main New Year's tree of the country was delivered through the gates of the Spasskaya Tower of the Moscow Kremlin.
The search for the main symbol of the New Year was organized by a special commission under the leadership of the Administrative Directorate of the President of the Russian Federation in the spring. Together with the Forestry Committee of the Moscow Region, the commission selected about 37 applicants.
This year, the unconditional victory was won by a spruce tree, which has been growing for 90 years in the village of Novopareyevo, Shchelkovsky district, Moscow region. It ticked all the boxes: age 90-100 years, height - about 30 meters, regular pyramidal shape, dense needles of rich green color, easy transport accessibility.
On December 14, a solemn event was held to cut the country's main New Year tree. A concert program, contests and folk amusements for children, a field kitchen were organized. The spectators were able to observe the full process: at first, everyone asked to move to a safe distance, a large crane grabbed the top with a special cable, and an experienced sawman cut down the tree, it hung in the air for a few minutes, the snow was shaken off its branches, and then carefully the tree was laid on special supports for preparation to transport.
It takes almost two days to pack the spruce, since the tree is transported on a 30-meter road train, which must drive into the Spassky Gate. The packers are faced with a responsible task - not to break a single precious branch under any circumstances.
In the evening of December 16, a long big rig, covered with a banner with the inscription: "Russian New Year's tree in the Kremlin from the urban district of Shchelkovo, Moscow region" arrived at Red Square. By tradition, Grandfather Frost came out of it and handed the Kremlin security officer a special travel letter. Then, under the close attention of the cameras, the big rig overcame the gates of the Spasskaya Tower under the chimes.
Now the spruce will be neatly installed on the Cathedral Square of the Moscow Kremlin and will give an even more elegant look by December 22, when the solemn presentation of the decorated New Year's beauty will take place.
